This series has been developing since december of 2007. The first image was captured in South Africa, but now includes countries like Peru, Brazil, Poland, and more.
The focus is the way bicycles are used every day. When compared to automobiles, bicycles carry people out in the open elements, showing more personality and detail than could ever be seen of a person inside of an automobile. With these details, I'm hoping to draw the audience in with curiosity about where the subject is going, what they are doing, and who they might be simply from a photograph of them on this simple / timeless form of transportation.
Emotion is a subjective, conscious experience characterized primarily by psychophysiological expressions, biological reactions, and mental states.
This series was inspired by Mark Rothko's paintings. Each piece is a photograph of one or multiple objects. The images are taken when the subject is out of focus enough to show as simplified shapes and colors. In a way, the subject is in focus. And the focus of the work is to trigger emotion in the viewer from the shape and color.
