BART BLONSKI

Small details in product photography.

I've shot a good amount of reflective products in the past. There is always room for improvement, so I try to improve every time I shoot.

Some of the most challenging and time consuming objects to shoot are reflective and transparent. I wanted to find a way to capture highlights/reflections in a way that you don't even notice them as a reflection.

The first image is taken to just demonstrate the highlights on the sides in a way that adds shape to the product, but doesn't distract with any light source or reflection. There is a spot on the background that can be seen through the bottle to add some more depth and color. Each set and lighting scheme is built around the product.

The second image takes the same bottle and shows it in a slightly different way that adds it's own set of challenges.  I wanted to make a brighter and warmer look this time. I added smoother highlights on the sides of the bottle, but also a pattern to the background, cut to the correct size and shape to be seen through the bottle. It's a challenge because there is more light to be controlled where it reflects and refracts. It has to be placed in the perfect spot in between the highlights to not wash one another out.

Each of these little details take a good amount of time and effort to achieve. Thank you to all my clients that appreciate going the extra mile when it comes to these details. If you are reading this as a potential client, I would love for a chance to show you how well these details reflect in your returns.

I've been looking for a way to capture smoother transitions between highlights and shadows. Especially when it comes to shooting products that are reflective. It's always even more of a challenge because its not easy to hide the light source and at the same time to get good shadows to shape the product. I found a new way to light these difficult products.

Can't post what I'm shooting today.

So I can't post what I just shot, and I was about to take a coffee break when, bing! Found a way to at least post something showing the lighting. Swapping the two items doesn't let the replacement look as good as it would if the lighting was build based on it, but this one doesn't look that bad. Both were translucent and reflective. Things would have to be done to make the top, sides, and logo of the french press to look better.

I'll post the actual product as soon as the client allows. The little lighting diagram will give a rough idea of the placement. "All work and no play makes Bart a dull boy!"

Brazil will be hosting the World Cup summer of 2014. The country can benefit from hosting an event of this scale, but many people are concerned that the government is investing in the wrong places and further lining the pockets of the already wealthy.

In 2013 Brazilians gathered on the streets across Brazil in protest. They were fed up with widespread corruption and lack of many basic human rights. This series contains Athletes, public figures, and people who care deeply for the issues and have the ability to bring awareness.

Big Thank you to Kyra Gracie, Pedro Andrade, Alex Lundqvist for participating and contributing their time and views.

Stay tuned for the next set of contributors, and please feel free to contact me to get involved.
